Hoa Nguyen is a life long learner and who is excited about new science and technique. She received her master’s degree in biochemistry from Vietnam National University. For three years she had been studying the regulation of type-I restriction modification system in Escherichia coli at the Division of Cell and Molecular Biology at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. She worked in the Nguyen lab for 12 years studying pathogenic mycobacteria and how intrinsic antibiotic resistance and virulence are connected. Her current position in the McDermott lab is comprised of creating transgenic fish to establish a system measuring Ca2+ concentration and the voltage of the membrane in hair cell in zebrafish. In her spare time Hoa loves cooking and writing stories to make her children laugh.
